The Rotary club of Limassol-Amathusia was founded in 1985 as a second Club in Limassol.
The formal application for membership to Rotary International was submitted on the 20th of September 1985, and was signed by 27 Charter members. The Club was admitted to Rotary International on 19th of November 1985 and the Charter was presented by PDG Phoebus Zachariades, on the 2nd of February 1986.
That same year, the Club established the first Rotaract club in Cyprus, the Rotaract Club of Limassol-Amathusia, which was officially presented it’s Charter on the 26th of July 1986.
We have close co-operation with the Inner Wheel Club of Limassol-Amathusia, which was Chartered with the presence of the President of the International Inner Wheel Mrs Dora Bailey, on the 14th of September 1987.
Ever since its establishment our Club has been operating within the parameters of Rotary International. We have always endeavoured to be an effective Club, setting goals meaningful to the Club and our community and identifying the strategies necessary to achieve them. All goals set by our Club had all the characteristics of Rotary goals. They were Shared, Measurable, Challenging,
Achievable and Time Specific.
During the years which followed, the Club has built momentum and gained experience in all Avenues of Service. As a result the Members of the Club can now look back with satisfaction about what has been achieved.
The Club today, after so many years of service is a far outcry from the small cell established in 1985. Founding members can be proud. Rotary Club of Limassol – Amathusia has today (February 2015) a total of 59 committed and enthusiastic members. The Club is run like a unified business-like organization with up-to-date Rotary procedures. The amended constitution which was confirmed on 13 October 2005 has given a renewed momentum to our club.
