ROTARY YEAR 2008-2009
Visit of the Incoming District Governor
Nijad Al Atassi on 16 March 2009
Dear Incoming Governor Al Atassi,
On behalf of all the members of our club I would like to welcome you in today’s regular Club meeting.
Allow me to provide you with some basic information about our club and its current activities.
Our club was founded in December 1987 and currently we have 72 members, two of which were admitted this year.
We maintain regular correspondence with the District leadership and we are constantly complying to all requirements such as payment of dues, membership reporting, voting, updating of club information (e.g. Club By- Laws) and reporting our activities.
Within the club we keep our leadership plan and we constantly update our records. We are proud of our weekly bulletin through which we keep all the members of our club and the presidents of all the clubs of Cyprus up to date with our activities.
Our main project for this year is the redesign of the backyard for the “Cyprus Society for the protection of Spastic and Handicapped children”, which is currently under execution and expected to be completed by the end of March. In addition we are offering annual awards to University students for Community Service and we are working on a major project for environmental protection/renewable energy, which will be executed by the Incoming President using a Matching Grant. We have also sponsored our Rotaract Club for RYLA. We are supporting them on a number of different events.
Our fundraising activities are basically social events combining fellowship, entertainment and fundraising and up to now we have managed to raise €12.000 which are being used for our club activities.
At the Public Relations field we are ready to publish a book on the history of the Club which coincided with its 20 year anniversary. The book is named WHO-IS-WHO and contains valuable information on the Club’s history, members details and activities.
We have made 3 new PHF this year in a special ceremony in the presence of the R.I. President D.K. Lee in Cyprus in December 2008. The contribution
USD$ 3.000 will be sent to E.R.E.Y.. Furthermore during the celebrations for the 104th Birthday of Rotary we have announced our contribution of USD$ 1.000 to match Rotary’s effort in the “Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation”.
As you are aware we have also formed the incoming Board of Directors which will serve under your Governorship, some members of which you may have personally met yesterday.
We wish you a fruitful and successful Rotarian Year 2009-10.
